Rally activities in Europe

This page is reserved for any rally report of Punto involved in the national rallies in Europe. For the Junior championship please click here:

Belgium

Frere Julien maintains the web pages of Larry Cols, the fast Belgian driver fighting in the Rally Division 1 of the Belgian championship with a Fiat Punto Rally. I have prepared a special page for the driver at the Larry Cols' page.

France

Sebastien Laffite, from Super1600.net, makes me know the evolution of the French championship 2002, where Piergiorgio Deila is taking part with the Fiat Punto Rally developed by Hi-Tec team.

  • Terre de l'Auxerrois: Deila retired because of a little crash of the engine backpart over the ground.
  • Alsace Vosges Rally: Deila 8th, after several difficulties because of the differences between the way to study the stages and misunderstanding of the road.

Germany

The Punto Rallye team brought Fiat Punto Rally in Germany very early, just from season 2000. There is a special page full of snapshots of the Fiat Punto used for the German championship, driven by Benedict and sometimes by Müller. All the pictures are about season 2000 and season 2001.

Greece

Simon Sofos sent me some pictures of Punto rallying on the gravel in Greece. In the first races of the 2002 Championship the young Greek rallyman was always first in the the Super 1600 category. He was first in the Olimpio rally, the Thermaiku rally and Achaios/Elpa one.

Hungary

I report here the TRT Sport Promotion experience made for the Budapest Rallye with the local driver Szijj Zsolt.

The first experience of TRT Sport Promotion in Hungary has been concluded positively. At the Budapest Rallye, valid for the European championship with coefficient 2, the local driver Szijj Zsolt, codriven by Dani, made the Hungarian debut of the Fiat Punto Super 1600 of the TRT Sport Promotion, prepared by Paolo Baggio's 2M team. The Hungarian driver got the 20th final position, second in the A/6 class. Only the Saxo by Citroen Hungary driven by Robert Butor was faster than the Fiat Punto driver.
After the first leg driven very carefully because of the heavy raining which made the enjoying and fast tarmac stages in Budapest even more insidious, Zsolt in the second leg increased the beat and paced the other drivers marking good timings.
"I am happy with this experience - said the Speedy Motorsport drivers celebrated by several people - and I really hope this venture with TRT Sport Promotion and the Fiat Punto can keep on".
TRT Sport Promotion verified on the field the high technical and promotional capabilities of the rallies in Hungary, where races like the Budapest Rallye are prepared in a professional and competent way.

Italy

The list of races where Punto cars are racing in Italy is really long. You may acces to several pages about the rallies in Italy available in this site.

Poland

The Procar rally team will be racing with two Fiat Punto Abarth Super 1600's in the 40th Barborka Rally in Poland for the first time this weekend when it gets underway on Friday the 29th of November from the capital of Varsavia.
Procar will field two drivers for this important contest in Poland: Paolo Andreucci, the 2002 Italian S1600 Champion, who is one of the best world rally drivers, together with interesting young local Damian Yurczak, who will debut with one Procar's Fiat Punto Abarths.
Damian expressed his satisfaction with the car after a recent test in Italy. The Polish star is very happy to run alongside the Italian Champion in this event that has a long tradition in Poland. Meanwhile Procar is very happy with its presence here this weekend.
"We believe this is a perfect combination - Andreucci/Yurczak - for this important appointment in Poland," said Daniele Pelliccioni, Procar's Team co-ordinator. "I'm sure we can achieve some good final results."

A special page for Portugal shows the Punto Rally with the Vodafone colours at this link.

Fiat Punto wins the Turkish championship

After the success in the Italian Super 1600 championship with Paolo Andreucci, the Fiat Punto Abarth got first in the Turkish rally championship. In the Anatolia Rally, which will be probably in the pool of the world rallies in the 2003, two Fiat Punto got the first two positions in the Super 1600 classification, the third and fourth position in the global classification, with Volkan Isik and Ali Devecy.
Isik got with the result the national title. The stages, completely on gravel, has been dramatically hard, but the two Fiat Punto cars ended at top.
