Montecarlo 2002

Montecarlo rally, from Friday 18th to Sunday 20th, is the first rally valid for the World Rally Championship and the Junior Rally Championship. This rally is considered the rally that any driver wants to win in his career.
In the 2002 edition the Montecarlo responsibles decide to admit only WRC and Super1600 cars, refusing any private car of Group.N.
In the Super1600 five Punto are subscribed, driven by Galli, Basso, Chemin, Llovera, and Roig. All the Punto crews went out of road during the stages, but they showed the development status of Fiat cars is good and they will counterattack at the next rally, the Catalunya one in late March.
Basso retired when he was second in the special stage 2, while Galli, dominating from the third to the nineth special stage, abandoned in the SS.10.

Gianluigi Galli first from SS4 to SS10

The Junior category has been won by Francois Duval with Ford Puma and the WRC has been won by Sebastien Loeb with Citroen XSara T4, although the Frenchman has been disqualified, because of an infringiment of Citroen team, while returing to the Parc Ferme. The winner is Tommi Makinen, who got his fourth victory in the prestigious race.
