Engines

The Punto Mk2 rev.B is offered with three Diesel engines and four petrol ones, and even a bipower propulsion system (petrol and methane) which is debuting in this market range. All the engines are four cylinders equipped and make a complete offer to satisfy very different needs. Common features are: elasticity, economy, and environment safety. Two automatic gearboxes (Speedgear and Dualogic) and four mechanic ones (three with five gears and one with six gears) must be considered as added value. Three engines are really new in the engines world: the revolutionary 1.3 16v Multijet, the 1.9 Multijet 100 HP, and the brilliant 1.4 16v Fire 95 HP.

The max power of the 1.3 16v Multijet is 51 kW at 4000 rpm (70 HP) and the max torque is 180 Nm at only 1750 rpm. Besides them, we have confirmations for 1.8 16v 130 HP, the reliable 1.9 JTD 85 HP and the proven 1.2, the 8 valves and the 16 valves of the Fire family, updated in some parts and with enhanced about performance.

Great coherence with the large range of engines of the Punto Mk2 has been achieved for the gearbox offer: the mechanic ones are four (three with five gears and one with six gears), while two are automatic with electronic management.
Although different for the max torque they can handle (from 130 to 260 Nm), all the mechanic gearboxes have the external actuator with double flexible connection, which filters the roughness from the engine and the oscillations transfered to the gearbox lever.

The gears have toothings with high coverings...

The rumours about the engines are very likely. Here they are:

Several sinergies are going on with Opel and General Motors. Expect also some common parts in both the cars. A double fueled engine with petrol and methane is due also for the next restyling.
