Millemiglia 2002

The Rally of Millemiglia 2002 edition has been also valid for the European Championship with coefficient 20. Almost all the best Italian drivers took part to the race, although Travaglia still dominates the Italian Championship, because he has real challengers for the title. The real battle is between the drivers of the Super 1600 category. For the first time of the current Italian championship, Dallavilla and the Italian rally champion Andreucci were joined by Piero Longhi with the world debuting Renault Clio Super 1600.
The French car seems to be really fast, because the times were absolute with respect the usual contenders. Longhi was not lucky in the SS.12, because he turned and went off. He had to abandon the battle in a crucial moment. The race sees Andreucci first for almost the whole first leg, but in the SS.9 a rapid storm surprises Andreucci and has to go slow, while Dallavilla installs the right choice of tyres and gets almost a minute over the Punto driver, who slid to the fifth position after Longhi. The last leg is terminated by a performance of Andreucci, that regains the fourth position just below Dallavilla.
The second leg is literally dominated by the Fiat driver Andreucci, who gets very fast times that took him first in the category and second in the general classification.
Luigi Galli, who went off in the first leg, recuperates a lot of positions and moves from the 21th position up to the 9th during the second leg, going fast and too fast in some stages.

The final classification of Rally Millemiglia: 1 Travaglia (Peugeot 206 WRC), 2 Andreucci (Fiat Punto S1600), 3 Cantamessa (Subaru Impreza WRC), 4 Dallavilla (Citroen Saxo), 5 Antonelli (Peugeot 306 Maxi), 6 Ratiglia (Mitsubishi Evo Lancer VII).
