Rally Costa Smeralda 2002

The beautiful Rally of Costa Smeralda was the last round of the Italian Rally Championship and the growing Super 1600 category, which will be the reigning category in the Italian national rally championship in the next season.

Several drivers missed the rally, in primis Renato Travaglia, because he has already got the title and has to concentrate his efforts in the European title.

Also the Super 1600 drivers list was very shortened: the Vieffecorse cars and men were absent, because they are spending the resources in order to have Andrea Dallavilla at best for the Network Q Rally and also other Punto drivers missed the Sardinian event for the same reason.

The Super 1600 category had no story because Paolo Andreucci got the first standing in the very early stages and only one driver could solicitate the Tuscan driver, Luca Pedersoli, who has no luck with a penalty of one minute and 40 seconds and he had also the gearbox failure during the last stage. Paolo Andreucci completes his successful season with 8 victories in 10 races and with the second absolute position in the Italian championship.

A nice return to the Italian championship was by Piergiorgio Deila, who started the current season in the fightful Super 1600 French championship. Deila ended the Rally of Costa Smeralda in second position in the Super 1600 class.
