James Barwell sent me the list of modifications of his own Punto Sporting Mk2, which has been fitted with the Autotest lower pressure turbo kit. The full list of the modifications is here:

  • Autotest Low Pressure Turbo Kit
  • Home made exhaust with Laser Jetex Back Box
  • Abarth Body Kit with colour coded mirrors
  • Red Dot twenty groove discs with XE fast road pads
  • 1000 watt amp powering two ten inch subs, pioneer head unit and components all round
  • Spax lowering springs
  • eyebrows

James made me have very detailed information about the parts he installed: "the kit came direct from Italy, through a company called R&A Design in Cleethorpes, England. The kit includes everything you can think off to convert the car, from brand new Garrett Turbo and new stainless downpipe(including cat) to new NGK VX spark plugs, and dump valve.
The kit came with great fitting guidelines, and wasn't to bad to fit. I was informed that the kit can be fitted by Autotest Mechanics in five hours!! It took myself about a day and a half!
The performance of the car has changed totally. Its increases the maxpower from 80 to 121, which in a car of this size, on standard wheels and tyres makes first and second gears no good for anything but wheelspin!!! I have no official performance readings but i would estimate 0-60 around 8.5 seconds, and whilst having some fun with a mate in his 1.8 Zetec Focus we touched around 130mph flat out, I can't agree as I was well off the clock at the time! I would say that the performance of the two cars was nearly identical.
I have done nearly 12,000 miles with the kit fitted, and have had only two problems! Not with the kit but the gearbox! The first time i stripped the planet gears in the diff, which I repaired! Then a few months later it gave up totally and tried to get out of the box causing the casing to crack!!! So i replaced the whole thing, with a new clutch as it had started to slip!"
